Years Existence
The founding principle of the Susan Kahema Foundation is rooted in the belief that every child and caregiver, irrespective of their physical, psychological, and psychosocial challenges, deserve to thrive comprehensively. The foundation emerged from a sincere desire to bring about tangible positive changes in the lives of children and caregivers grappling with exceptional difficulties. Named after its founder, Susan Kahema, the organization embodies her dedication to fostering a more inclusive and compassionate society.
The Susan Kahema Foundation traces its origins to the memory of the founder’s late son, Babu Magwaro, who faced chronic illness and disability during the final months of his life. Ms. Kahema draws from her personal experience of raising her exceptional child. Through this experience, the founder observed that although considerable care and support was provided to the child, the caregivers, including herself, often felt neglected, leading to psychosocial and severe mental health challenges. Recognizing the significant need to support caregivers of children encountering unique hurdles such as disabilities, chronic illnesses, and other special needs, the foundation was established.
The foundation recognizes the urgent need to support caregivers of these exceptional children. Ms Kahema emphasizes that by empowering caregivers, offering holistic support and promoting their mental well-being, the caregiving role becomes more manageable, ultimately ensuring that children receive comprehensive care and attention.
